I Will Listen To You

"I will listen to you, Especially When We disagree "(I will listen to you and especially when we disagree)

These are the words of Barack Obama from his speech yesterday. Others could have our attention here in as good omens. But more than enough to spark discussion about the relative poverty of our trade policies.
.
For let us not try us precisely the opposite? By interrupting the dialogue or by refusing to lend an ear when there is consensus wrong? Or by deliberately adjusting his speech without reasons other than to seek the consent of a partner more insistent than oneself?

I propose, in the aftermath of these historic words, that we give serious consideration to the following questions inevitably controversial:
.
Quebec is home there one or more identity (s)? Each of us, in turn, houses there one or more identity (s)?
.
plural identities (if they do exist) are they irreconcilable with common institutions, a common official language, a common history? If yes, how to define this common body, in its relations with the spirit of solidarity which should animate a company committed on a promising path?
.
Do we want to make us understand the rest of the Francophone world by seeking to preserve the 'French language' in Quebec?
.
Controlling more than one language she opposes a healthy cultural development?
. What
(s) vote regardless (s) message (s) Quebecers would they be heard, at first, on the world stage? Their is it impossible to distribute without the consent of Ottawa? Quebecers they can offer the world a new vision of the identity National ?
.
The nomination of a writer speaking Quebecois, now, would it necessarily be eliminated by the designated committee of the Nobel Foundation?
.
This site opens up avenues for discussion on these items. During the year 2010, they will be a synthesis that will be submitted to all major newspapers in Quebec. To be continued ...

Political courage of Barack Obama

Barack Obama regrets unilingualism:

"However, I am of agree that immigrants should learn English. But understand this: Instead of you fretting about the learning of English by immigrants - they'll learn English - you should make sure your children speak English. (...) We should ensure that every child speaks more than one language. "
" It's embarrassing when Europeans come here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And when we go to Europe, all we can say is thank you very much . "
(translated by R. Hetu)
His speech is not it encouraging?!

What Happens To Food When It Is Prepared

a tendentious reading of the Bouchard-Taylor

Le Devoir today published a text in the philosophy of Duty series . It's called " Marcuse, inspirer of the Bouchard-Taylor " and was written by a PhD student at UQAM (the latter preferred the newspaper, curiously, has the air to freely publish it in Le Devoir he wants whenever he wants. A daily 'independent' has become his popular blog, you might say!).

The text is puzzling. It does not satisfy the canons of objectivity minimum, nor those of the appearance objectivity. The author initially refused to recognize the distinction between detention by the commissioners 'interculturalism' and 'multiculturalism'. The position of the latter is not yet unclear (see p. 41-42 of the Summary Report ):

" Often mentioned in academic papers, interculturalism as a policy of integration has never been a complete and formal definition from the Quebec government that its main constituent elements have been made long ago. This gap should be filled, especially more than the Canadian model of multiculturalism does not seem well adapted to the reality of Quebec, and, for four reasons: a) anxiety over language is not an important factor in English Canada b) insecurity the minority is not present, c) there is more than the majority ethnic group in Canada (citizens of British origin account for 34% of the population, while citizens of French-Canadian form Quebec a strong majority of about 77%) d) it follows that in English Canada, it is less concerned with preserving a cultural tradition that the founder of national cohesion.

In general, any community interest in maintaining a degree of cohesion. It is through this that it can develop common guidelines, ensure citizen participation in public debate, creating a sense of solidarity necessary for the operation of an egalitarian society, have an ability to mobilize Crisis and enjoy enrichment related to ethnocultural diversity. For a small nation like Quebec, constantly concerned about its future as a cultural minority, integration is also a condition of its development and even survival
. "

And if this distinction proved to be 'obsolete' in the eyes of some analysts, they would be clearly seen to demonstrate that otherwise 'poor calls by using the authority -' Mr. X, the prestigious university Y said Z '! Could we make the effort to grasp that we can here (1) build a few bridges, carefully, between so-called diversified crops (inter-cultural approach) or there (2) discourage the drawing of such bridges while encouraging cultural diversity (the multi-cultural)? And for more details, understanding that following the approach cross-cultural bridges between all cultures should ideally submit original profiles, adapted to the banks they unite?

it enough to keep this in mind for fear that the author does violence to the report of the commissioners by sprinkling his own text exaggerations, more or less shameless. So the commissioners, inspired by an "ideological radicalism," a people like "infinitely tolerant" and "relentlessly open to dialogue". They would furthermore "criminalize" (the word is listed more than once - you will forgive the lawyer show) positions opposed to theirs. As if the commissioners had not already shown restraint in expressing their ideas, and wisdom in the development of some dialogues. A careful reading of the report, however, can perhaps allay the reflexes would be terrified of the author. Continuing his tirade

, he suggests - and it is somewhat pathetic on the part of a brilliant young thinker - that the commissioners would have given the task of fighting the totalitarian defense of a perceived national identity as " a brand of xenophobia or racism "while Commissioners have repeatedly said they were facing a rather uncomfortable due to a fear of the unknown. There is a world to discover between these two difficulties, I think he said. Want more objectivity not to be scared more budding intellectual. In short, invite him to talk.

The most ridiculous in this case is the treatment of Le Devoir. Under the label of analytical objectivity that should accompany a 'duty of philosophy', he conceals his curiously bias for some speakers. Consider the humorous attempts of this journal translate the excitement of one of these interlocutors favorites on the person of Mr. Bouchard!

Letter Sample Requesting For Disconnection

The kirpan under certain conditions

In the wake of the Multani *, we read and hear that the kirpan was now allowed in Quebec public schools. More rarely do we discuss the reasonableness of the conditions imposed on that authorization.

In addition to wearing the religious object is legally restricted to students who purchase in good faith with the orthodox Sikhs, it will be admitted on condition that:
.
- the kirpan be worn under student's clothing;

- the sheath in which the kirpan is not metal but wood, so he lost his injury;

- the kirpan be placed in its scabbard, wrapped and sewn securely in a a sturdy fabric and that everything is sewn at the Guthrie;

- that school personnel can verify a reasonable, that the conditions above are met;

- that students can under no time to dispose of his kirpan and the disappearance of the latter is reported to school authorities immediately;

- that failure to abide by these terms, students would definitively lose the right to wear his kirpan to school .

It is not, in this context, to allow the kirpan under the conditions prevailing outside our borders. It is about bridging the gap between two worlds. In addition, it was possible to allow more simply, wearing a kirpan made of plastics. But, on balance, there a priori reason to be alarmed? Multani v.

How To Prevent Camel Toes

Nobel by Victor-Lévy Beaulieu

Mr. Victor-Lévy Beaulieu argues that a Quebec writer can not win the Nobel Prize in literature before becoming an independent Quebec. It's at least what the following excerpt from the edition March 2, La Presse suggests:

Reporter:
"I asked him if, without independence, it would be possible for a Quebec writer to receive this honor. "

Victor-Lévy Beaulieu:
" No. Because Nobel Prizes are awarded to countries (sic) that do not leave the world indifferent. "

It is a morbid preoccupation, which I can not find the cure, but it looks more comfortable with when shooting less murky.

's claim is accompanied by Mr. VLB two ideas doubtful.

The first suggests that a language adopts a country and a country adopts a language (and not two or more). Note that it is not a fact, but rather an idea. For in fact, on the surface of this planet, many people who do not identify with this 'ideal' unit, the strictly European origin. The people of China, India and Nigeria, for example, bringing together nearly half the world population, share no common language within their respective political boundaries. India recognizes 18 official languages in use among the hundreds in its territory. Mandarin in Beijing, a thousand places identifying the Cantonese dialect is like a sore preferred to Shanghai, should remember. More than 500 languages and dialects are spoken in Nigeria, but English remains the instrument of a vicious minority. It seems that the historical legacy populations are more complex than would Mr. VLB: the inhabitants of these countries (except perhaps in the Indian case, supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the party and ultranationalist retrograde ) do not consider language as the unifying element central to their 'common culture'.

To point out the obvious, it does not follow that they all are monolingual. With millions of bilingual and multilingual individuals, all the towers of Babel does not condemn the misunderstanding. And the spirit of excellence and rigor can model this effect, the Dutch often speak English in a charming Londoner that the unilingual anglophone to win the street sometimes to imitate, if only for the purposes of Vocabulary. This wealth plural taints Does any manner of the Dutch literature? The question is as absurd as the idea of does reserve the Nobel Prize for literature as writers of nations that have (deliberately?) is the choice of monolingualism.

This leads us to the second idea underlying the claims of Mr. VLB: a nation denied a separate seat at the UN would not be worthwhile, it would leave "the rest of the world indifferent."

This is a provocation, but to assume that Mr. VLB was never aware of the powerful echoes of Quebec abroad, which is unlikely. This misconception is none less reprehensible for that other reason that it invites Quebecers to Consider before the problems of the new millennium, the solutions of all centuries. What seems to be asked Quebec to do more to promote the French culture has taken root while sparing reports identity of sympathy with the rest of Canada? More dramatically, how best to establish a certain "cultural sovereignty" with the foundation for a strong Canada-wide solidarity in crises - a mari usque ad pond? The Catalans, our cousins in some way, show a wisdom rare in similar ways because, unlike defer to the Quebec Canada, Catalonia is actually the economic engine of Spain. Deliberating in a calm and not letting the passions fly without the guidance of reason, Quebecois and the Catalans are already offering the world a model of political behavior to copy the beginning of a century 's ad disrupted.

I invite Mr. VLB to think like a great man, as presented in the full measure of his intelligence and his remarkable imaginative power. To his good fortune, we may note that the Nobel Foundation unusually punishes those who think otherwise. I invite him to support the draft constitution, with the inhabitants of Catalonia, the Basque Country, Belgium Walloon and Flemish, the Kashmiri, Corsica and First Nations, among others, a self Nations World Assembly -determined in order to assert their common interests on the world stage and most certainly enrich their local authorities in cultural matters. In a spirit of dialogue with existing international institutions, the World Parliament would have a permanent base and rotating or plural. Promoting peaceful and recognition of cultural diversity will be included in the first agenda. Education Policy, Immigration and comparative research, cultural exchange programs, prices and international forums are among the projects to be considered. With any luck, the initiative itself as the pioneers of respectable politics and history - including Mr. VLB worried too humble to become a 'debris' - would undertake perhaps to remind us!

Le Devoir

The newspaper Le Devoir lost feathers and strengths. Home and perhaps also those of 'people of spirit and good' (ie the hearing officially referred by his founder, Henri Bourassa), its editorials often inspire disillusionment - colored rev reed - despite a holding perhaps the fact that the quality of the spirits who once headed (from Bourassa Bissonnette) is quite now sadly lacking. He said officially 'free thinking', but refuses to publish comments on this site, which does not seem to align more with the editorial policy of the independent newspaper. All this, dam perhaps the most remarkable of its columnists, who still support honorably.

How To Make A Chart For Football

A Case of Identity

The debates surrounding the issue of "identity of a people" in Quebec as elsewhere, like a commedia dell'arte in which a number of politicians and officials intermediaries seeking to impose their own scenario balkanized most often less tasteful.

A fundamental error is that it flows freely to the idea that millions of people today would share, as opposed to others, a unique identity, and thus the "same root," as a single tree - a spruce, birch or maple? would be inclined to ask. It is not afraid to abuse in this game of division and false meetings, these rich metaphors tree, open field patriotic - the poor play on words is fortuitous.

What we said too often, outside private clubs is that everyone develops roots in movement, daily, and exposes its own foliage, sometimes facing the nor'wester, sometimes quietly, by some snowy peaks, there on the edge of swamps. So it is not necessary to move beyond the regions of Quebec to be convinced. Quebecers rather atheists, religious, chauvinists, cosmopolitanism, Conservative, Liberal, (in) tolerant, rational, passionate, egalitarian, competitive, monolingual, multilingual, globe-trotting, sedentary, conformist or rebel rub shoulders every day. Nothing that does not surprise. Ultimately, some would be willing to die in the name of a certain chauvinistic pride while others see in nationalism asserted, with Albert Einstein, a "childhood disease". Healthy adding that patriotism is another matter!

.
Is it necessary to specify (for spirits frightened or anxious to find!) That does not contradict the ideals of some research community in a spirit of tolerance and respect? The ideal flower to see a language widely shared and to refine the master, as an example. Or strengthening common institutions which themselves stand out perhaps more monolithic than can individuals. Or maintain laws reconciliatory, to live and relive the customs and traditions that a nation was proud. On the road to a national identity 'more generous ...?

The speech we failed? Learn to better understand, respond Socrates. And if that means we had to explain to a stranger what makes 'us' who we are, what words would we use? What words are those of our neighbors, in our opinion? And if we take the time to ask the question out of curiosity ...? In my vision, which should not and can not be shared by all in a free society, these words belong to the individual first: you and me are bigger than Quebec, it is too expensive in our hearts.

To abuse our turn images Scots offer that men do not have identities less than the Tree of Life has no roots in the center to the periphery, and they extend in symbiosis. The healthy patriotism, or even the identity National generous, would be more appropriately Affairs symbioses, I think he said. All invitations, all in all, curiosity, effort and dialogue.
