LEGACY JOHN FRANKLIN KOENIG

John Franklin Koenig loved Angers. Died in 2008, there remain present through the works he bequeathed to the City.

Ten paintings in the Museum of Fine Arts. Two tapestries at the Museum Jean Lurcat. Twenty pounds or vinyl covers illustrated with collages, drawings ... the fund's precious library. Patrick Nouëne, curator of the museums of Angers, does not accept all bequests, which are proposed to the city. But for this one, he did not hesitate: "The Museum of Fine Arts is not very rich painting of the twentieth century. These works will be a first funding round of abstract art 50s. He will present them in an exhibition with the Museum of Nantes, which Koenig has also left some works.

Koenig and Angers is a long history that goes by Jean-Pierre Arnaud, then president of the PACA (Presence of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles). Abbey Bouchemaine presents the first retrospective of his work engraved in 1990 and his works of the 1980s. This second exhibition, which has the scoop Anjou, is presented in 22 French museums. In 1999, Koenig and Paca organize the room Chemellier a retrospective devoted to the first ten years of Arnaud Gallery and Review Cimaise. A splendid exhibition where one of his works with those of neighboring Soulages, Rezvani, Vasarely, Zao Wou-Ki, Dubuffet, de Stael, Arp ...
Koenig thought a while to settle in Los Angeles. He died aged 83 in Seattle (USA) in January 2008.
